Volunteers will work with students under the supervision and direction of a program coordinator, and are expected to comply with all rules and regulations set forth by the Lovell Recreational District and/or BHCSD#2 Board of Cooperative Educational Services. All volunteers must have approval from the Program Coordinator, who will clear with the Recreation District and/or BHCSD#2 Board of Cooperative Educational Services prior to service. All volunteers must satisfactorily complete a local background check as specified by the Recreation or BOCES Board. *Clear SignaturePlease sign here as a ‘volunteer’ giving consent for the Lovell Recreation District and/or BHCSD#2 Board of Cooperative Educational Services to check with local law enforcement office regarding your background:Volunteer PolicyVolunteer Check List: All Volunteers must complete an application/release form All volunteers shall be informed of their responsibilities and skills for the activity/program by the program coordinator, and/or Recreation Director/BOCES Coordinator. Program Coordinators will supervise the volunteers Informed consent forms used are drafted to relieve the organization and its volunteer staff from inherent risks. Volunteers under the age of 18, if used, are closely supervised and receive additional training and cautionary instructions by the coordinator, and need a signature from parent/guardian to be involved. When young children are involved in an activity, parental consent forms are used and filled out prior to participation. Medical situations, should be handled with care and procedures followed to inform parents, guardians and medical personnel as needed. Volunteers may not have their service count towards “community service hours” for youth or adult programs unless previously approved by the director. The primary responsibility of the volunteers is to perform their duties in a safe manner, in order to prevent injury to themselves and others. As a condition of time spent with the organization, volunteers MUST become familiar with, observe, and obey rules and established policies for health, safety, and preventing injuries while involved with the program. If a volunteer has any questions about how a task should be done safely, he or she is under instruction NOT to begin the task until he or she discusses the situation with a supervisor/coordinator. Management is responsible for providing the safest possible workplace for volunteers. Volunteers are responsible for following safe work practices and Rec. District rules, and for preventing accidents and injuries. The Recreation District and/or BHCSD#2 Board of Cooperative Educational Services coordinators will set an exemplary example with good attitudes and strong commitment to safety and health within our programs. Safety applies to all volunteers, coordinators, and persons affected or associated in any way by the scope of this organization. NO VOLUNTEER IS EVER REQUIRED to perform work that he or she believes is unsafe, or that he or she thinks is likely to cause injury or a health risk to themselves or others. CONDUCT: Horseplay, ‘practical jokes’, etc. are forbidden. Volunteers are required to work in an injury-free manner displaying accepted levels of behavior. Conduct that places the volunteer or others at risk, or which threatens or intimidates others, is forbidden. DRUGS & ALCOHOL: Use and/or possession of illegal drugs or alcohol while volunteering or on volunteer time are forbidden. Reporting as a representative of the Lovell Recreation District and/or BHCSD#2 Board of Cooperative Educational Services while under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol are forbidden. HOUSEKEEPING: Clean up at the end of each practice or game, disposing of trash and waste in approved containers, wiping up drips and spills, putting away equipment and tools used while serving as a volunteer, and to assist the coordinator is required. REPORTING OF INJURY: All volunteer-related injuries must be reported to a coordinator / supervisor /director immediately. GENERAL EMERGENCY GUIDELINES: Stay calm and think through your actions, and help others to stay calm Know the emergency numbers “911” for Fire/Police/Ambulance Know where the exits are located Do not hesitate to call or alert others if you believe that an emergency is occurring Be aware of location of first aid supplies and emergency equipment, and know who is trained for their use The Lovell Recreation District and BHCSD#2 Board of Cooperative Educational Services do not tolerate harassment of our volunteers, employees, community members or guests. Any form of harassment related to a volunteer’s race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, citizenship status, veteran status, or handicap is a violation of policy and will be treated as a disciplinary matter. For these purposes, the term harassment includes, but is not limited to, slurs, jokes, or other verbal, graphic, or physical conduct relating to the above mentioned. This also includes same-sex harassment, as stated in the Supreme Court, Title VII, Civil Rights Act of 1964. Volunteer Program Team Coaches Must receive approval from the Program Coordinator they will be assisting. The Program Coordinator may be the Lovell Recreation District Director or BHCSD#2 BOCES Coordinator. Should have a basic knowledge and skills related to the sport/activity they will be coaching. Attendance at all practices (as a responsible adult). If not able to attend in person, the volunteer will let the Program Coordinator know they will not be at that given practice and who will be coming as replacement. Should attend all games for the team. If you are unable to attend the game, a replacement coach MUST be cleared with the coordinator. To ensure safety of all volunteers, “Two-deep leadership’ should be practiced at all times. Do not volunteer to transport kids. Ask parents to line judge and keep score whenever possible. This helps to keep the cost of the program down. All Program Coordinators should be trained in the Big Horn School District #2 “Blood Borne Pathogens” procedures. If no training has occurred to date, the school’s policy will be available online for review and testing. All coordinators should plan moving heavy objects so as to avoid obstructed pathways or any unsafe situation. Use proper lifting guidelines, ask for assistance and be safe.Code of EthicsI will place the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of personal desire to win. I will treat each player as an individual, remembering that there is a wide range of emotional and physical abilities within a same age group. I will strive to provide a safe playing environment for my players. I will review basic first aid principles/practices to use as needed for treatment to my players injuries. I will strive to organize practice sessions that are fun and challenging for all my players. I will show by example the importance of fair play and good sportsmanship to all my players. I will provide a sports environment that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol for my players, and I will refrain from using them, or under the influence of them, at all youth sports events. I will attend the coach's workshop and become knowledgeable in the rules of each sports that I coach, and in turn teach these rules to my players. I will strive to use coaching techniques that are appropriate for the skills that I teach. I will remember that I am a youth sports coach, and that the game is for children and not adults and their own personal feelings. I will honor the practice of no one-on-one contact between adults and youth participants. No situation should require such, and personal conferences should take place in view of other adults and youth. This also includes transporting of youth in any vehicles. I will respect the privacy of youth participants in situations such as changing clothes or taking showers at the pool. (Only to the extent of health and safety required, should I intrude.) I will also protect my own privacy in similar situations. All activities should consider the capabilities of the participating youths. No activity should be undertaken without the proper preparation, equipment, clothing, supervisions, and safety measures. The Lovell Recreation District does not recognize any secret organizations as part of its programs. All activities are open to observation by parents and other adults. (Unless such observation is unfeasible for safe and effective instruction.) Appropriate attire for activities is required. Discipline, if needed, should be constructive and reflect positive values. Corporal punishment is never permitted. NOW THEREFORE, for and in consideration of good and valuable consideration between the parties, it is hereby agreed as follows: VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE: The parties agree that Volunteer may provide the described assistance to Lovell Recreation District and/or BHCSD#2 Board of Cooperative Educational Services with no expectation of compensation, monetary or otherwise. INDEMNIFICATION, RELEASE, WAIVER AND HOLD HARMLESS: A Volunteer, as an adult person or under the age of 18, does hereby Indemnify and Hold Harmless the Lovell Recreation District and/or BHCSD#2 Board of Cooperative Educational Services, its employees, officers, officials and agents, from any and all injury or injuries, claims, demands, suits, penalties, losses, damages, judgments or costs of any kind whatsoever, that may result from or arise out of the volunteer assistance described above, including those that involve negligence or any other cause. I hereby further release the Lovell Recreation District, BHCSD#2 Board of Cooperative Educational Services, Wyoming; its employees; staff; appointees and representatives from all liability, including claims and suits at law or in equity, for any injury, fatal or otherwise, including but not limited to claims for negligence, while participating as a volunteer for the Lovell Recreation District and/or BHCSD#2 Board of Cooperative Educational Services. I further acknowledge and understand that while performing volunteer work for the Lovell Recreation District and/or BHCSD#2 Board of Cooperative Educational Services, volunteer is not covered by Workers Compensation and has no coverage for injuries sustained while volunteering. I further acknowledge that the Lovell Recreation District and/or BHCSD#2 Board of Cooperative Educational Services has not arranged for and does not carry any insurance of any kind for the benefit of the volunteer. I represent that to my knowledge that volunteer is in good health and has no physical impairment that would or should prevent volunteer’s participation as a volunteer. THIS AGREEMENT shall be binding upon and inure to the benefit of the parties hereto and their heirs, successors and assigns. Furthermore, I hereby state that I have read and understood this release prior to signing.
