Lovell Innovation Wyrkshop

$0.01

Welcome to the Lovell Innovation Wyrkshop where you will collaborate, create, innovate, build, invent, tinker, share, make, and learn without limits!

Lovell is the first Wyoming Mobile Makerspace Wyrkshop that is open to the general public! As a new program for our district and a first-time format of the mobile Makerspace units we are actively working to find the best way for all to learn, tinker, and create with the equipment provided by the University of Wyoming Mobile Makerspace program.

THE GOAL

The University of Wyoming is bridging the gap between rural and remote Wyoming communities and brick-and-mortar makerspaces. Students can earn cross-institutional credentials and get hands-on experience with cutting-edge STEAM equipment in our own community. Exposure to these makerspaces will help prepare students for future careers in STEAM fields, community college and four-year universities.

GETTING STARTED

Each innovator will start by creating a Maker Access Pass, or lovingly referred to as a MAP. The Maker Access Pass (MAP) is an online training platform where students can learn to use common equipment in makerspaces. Here you can earn virtual badges on how to use different equipment and software. Once you have earned a badge on the MAP, you can use that machine in the mobile makerspaces as well as any affiliated brick-and-mortar makerspace.

The target age group is K-12 students, with a focus on middle to high school. Some of the machines in our makerspace require a student to be 13 years or older to operate without proper supervision or help by an adult. There will be an adult on-site to supervise innovators however they will not be educated on the equipment. Participants are required to complete the necessary training courses (at link below) which will teach how to use the equipment before reserving a space.

STEP 1:
Create your own MAP here: https://www.makeraccesspass.com/

STEP 2:
Earn a completion badge for SAF101, the required safety training for all innovators.

STEP 3:
Complete the required safety and training courses for the equipment you’re interested in using. This step can be repeated for as many pieces of equipment you’d like to learn about. We recommend starting with one at a time.

STEP 4:
Come back here and reserve a piece of equipment.

STEP 5:
Attend Innovation Wyrkshop at the reserved time made in step 4. Wyrkshop is currently located at the National Guard Lovell Armory at 399 East 5th Street in Lovell (Directly across the street from Lovell Police Department).

STEP 6:
Show your course completion badge to the site supervisor and start innovating!
